Before you say, “hey! those are two old[ish] SSDs, why did you even buy yourself a ‘new’ one?” SHUT IT! I saw it on sale so I got it =]
I picked up this SSD for a few simple reason:
– it was on sale
– i’ve been wanting to get one for my new rig
– i’ve only ever had my corsair SSD
– it was on sale
I came across this drive while browsing dealnews.com, and since I had a bit of extra income this week, it justified my purchase. I also really wanted to see how it stacked up to my Corsair Force GT. Both of these drives are Sata III 6 GB/s and both have a capacity of 120GB.
I bought the Corsair on a whim roughly 10 months ago for around $200 from Fry’s Electronics; the Intel 520 rang up at $108 at Bestbuy, so I cannot really give an accurate price/performance ratio.
I used the AS SSD Benchmark utility for the test and came up with the following:
Surprisingly, the corsair was beat out by an adequate amount of point according to the benchmark, but that still doesn’t mean I will be dropping my support for corsair anytime soon. A more updated price comparison puts the corsair at $140 and the Intel at $109 so in terms of value I would definitely say that the Intel is the better buy. It would be a pretty great upgrade for any laptop desktop (MAC and PC).
I really do encourage that people start switching to SSD for the following reasons:
– Warranties far exceed the expected life on any machine
– $/GB of storage is starting to rival mechanical drives
– SSDs breathe life into pretty much any computer
– they lighten up laptops making them easier to carry to and from work and school
– they draw less power than mechanical drives
I always say I will do some kind of video review/unboxing of the stuff that I buy but honestly…I am always so excited to use my new hardware that I usually open it while I drive home from the store!
The last tidbit I will leave you with is a screenshot of my Windows Index Score (because it is sooooooo important). I never installed the corsair as the primary HDD in my current system (and I do not plan to) so I do not have a screenshot for it. If I rememeber correctly, the corsair scored a 7/8 in the windows index when I was running it in my laptop
