Hihi! Look what I just bought!
Over the weekend, I was browsing Dealnews as I usually do and came across a sweet ITX case. There were two things that influenced this purchase:
1. It was on sale on Newegg for 39.99 + tax (free shipping)
2. I had a $20 Newegg gift card from my Black Friday Weekend.
3. I needed something cool to house my “End of Year” Project.
I’m usually not a fan of small form factor cases, but I figured so long as I do not try to overclock my system, I should be fine. This build has always been on the back burner because I really had no practical application for it, but after taking a look at the case, I figured it would make a nice HTPC for my bedroom; because the case is so small, I can bring it to and from work everyday! The hardware is as follows:
COOLER MASTER Elite 120
$23.59 (after 20 gift card)
HGST/Hitachi 500GB HDD
Since the motherboard I have doesn’t require a lot of power, I didn’t go too fancy with the power supply. Being the hoarder that I am, I picked the PSU and hard drive from a pile of parts in my closet. I will most likely swap out as soon as an SSD or a better quality PSU appear on Dealnews, but for now these will do. The grand total of this build came to a whopping $153.56; that’s REALLY CHEAP. Although the motherboard and processor will never be able to play games like Crysis and Battlefield 3, this will still be a great machine for Netflix, Pandora, and YouTube; if I add a dedicated graphics card I should be able to do some very light gaming.
So at the end of the day, I was able to:
1. Get a sweet deal on and awesome product.
2. Finish my “End of Year” project.
3. Build my first HTPC.
4. Find a reason to buy more stuff for the office!
Although I have yet to do a video on ANY of the things I buy…photos and video coming soon!
